Training sessions in Ireland by LMETB

On March 2014, the staff in LMETB (Louth and Meath Education and Training Board) held a very interesting training session in their offices in Navan. The topic of the training was Using Science Fiction in the classroom. It was very well received and people were interested in implementing the genre in a number of different subject areas and with a number of different age groups.

Science Fiction in Literacy learning

Literacy students in Ireland have been encouraged to use Science Fiction literature in their studies recently in an effort to use more diverse and engaging genres to stimulate reader’s interest and enjoyment in reading.

Teacher training workshops

In the framework of the SciFiEd project, teacher training workshops are being completed during the month of March in all the partner countries. In Cyprus, these workshops were held on the 13th, 14th, and 18th of March at the University of Nicosia.

Mediterranean Migration Network International Conference

The Mediterranean Migration Network (MMN) held its annual International Conference, on Friday June 20th,2014, at the University of Nicosia, under the general title “Migration and Integration: the role of social services”.  The conference aimed at presenting the role of social services as an effective integration medium for migrants in the local EU communities, and to discuss the challenges the services face in in fulfilling this role. Participants in the conference included representatives from public services, embassies, civil society organizations, academics, international organizations and agencies, and the general public.

Innovade in workshop "Literacy: Beyond reading and writing"

Innovade participated in the Comenius Thematic Meeting on Literacy, Maths & Science "Together for Basic Skills" on the 6th and 7th of December 2012, which took place in Brussels. Dr. Charalambos Vrasidas, the Executive Director of CARDET and Associate Professor at the University of Nicosia, presented projects that the Center participates in, and shared experiences with European leaders and researchers.
