The SWPBS project team builds capacity from the pioneers in the field: Online Seminar with Dr Tim Lewis

The purpose of the meeting was to reflect on the last two year of implementation and draw the post-analysis of the data and experience accumulated. Research teams from Cyprus, Greece, Romania and Finland had the opportunity to address questions to Dr Tim Lewis, and express their opinions into an open and fruitful discussion.

Dr. Tim Lewis from the University of Missouri is an expert and pioneer in the domain of Positive Behaviour Support. He has 15 years of solid experience in working in various applied and research settings and has made substantial contributions to the development of the existing literature. His speciality areas also include social skill instruction and functional assessment.

The participants also discussed successes and challenges of the SWPBS Tier 1 implementation in their contexts, which is currently being carried out for a third year in Cyprus, Greece, and Romania. Moreover, the conversation expended on the Tier 2 implementation focusing on the criteria and indicators that allow moving on to the secondary prevention within a school. Dr. Lewis shared his views about the importance of teachers’ and students’ perceptions alignment regarding the behavioural problems in schools. Additionally, he provided suggestions regarding the significance of the framework’s application at schools and about the exploration of the data collected by the project team and partners of the SWPBS project. Our research team and coaches raised several inquiries to the professor regarding the application of the SWPBS framework and he addressed them by providing valuable real life examples, illustrations and practical suggestions.
